Community Spotlight: Nashville

Our primary (and most well-attended) monthly meetup is our Developer’s Breakfast. This meeting is targeted towards WordPress developers at varying levels of proficiency. In addition to making delicious pancakes, we discuss news, updates, and best-practices for WordPress in general, and we also open the floor to allow members to “show and tell” different tools or features they’ve picked up on.

Our second monthly meetup is typically more focused on a specific topic, usually following a theme that we push for several months at a time. For the past few months we’ve been using this meetup to discuss WooCommerce theming, and the presenter will walk people through the ins and outs of the plugin and how to customize it as we see fit.

Our members are engaged and active, and they are passionate about WordPress as a platform and as a community. We have a Slack channel that is buzzing with daily activity, and everyone is welcome and treated with kindness regardless of his or her experience level as a developer. Our more experienced members are always available to help when asked, which fosters a strong community for developers to grow and pay it forward to the next generation of beginners. On top of all that, we are all friends and many of us grab dinner/drinks or just meet up sporadically just to have a great time. Nashville’s WordPressers are a community in the truest sense of the word, which is why we are so excited to host WordCamp US this year and blow it out of the water for our fellow WP enthusiasts around the country!
